Marc Regis
Hannah
EARLY LIFE:
Marc Hannah, born on October 13,
1956, in Chicago, Illinois,
graduated from the Illinois
Institute of Technology in 1977
with a bachelors degree in
electrical engineering. One year
later, he finished his masters
degree from Stanford University
and in 1985 finished his Ph.D.
CONTRIBUTIONS:
Along with 6 partners, Marc founded the
Silicon Graphics Inc. in 1982. While part of his
company, Marc created several computer
programs such as Personal IRIS, and
improved a chip that one of his co-workers
created, by both, increasing the processing
speeds, and cutting the price of the chip down, in turn causing it to be more accessible to the public.
His chip was then used for the graphics in Star
Wars, Beuty and the Beast, Aladdin, Jurassic
Park, many Michel Jackson videos, and more.
A later graphics chip that he designed was for
the Nintendo Switch, which was both smalller and
kept the price of the toy to only 250$!
LATER
CAREER:
After 1990, when Hannah became
co-owner of Rondeau Bay, a
construction firm in Oakland,
California, he became part of
more small companies, and now
holds over a dozen patents.
